QE2 Refit Planned

Cunard Line has unveiled details of its plans for a $45-million refurbishment of the QE2 during a November-December drydock (1994).

Plans call for modification to the lay-out and style of most public areas including a new two-story atrium in the Midships Lobby on deck two.

Plans also call for the modernization of cabins throughout the ship and will also facilitate service upgrades.

Among the public areas to be redone is the Grand Lounge which will be reconfigured as a venue for big name entertainment, according to a spokesperson for Cunard, “with improved sight lines, additional seating and a modern fully equipped stage, with state-of-the-art lighting.”

The project will be undertaken as a joint venture by Met Studio and McNeece, both of London.
