Costa Olympia Update

At press time, the hull of the 76,000-ton Costa Olympia remained at the Bremer Vulkan outfitting pier, where it has been floated to from its former site at the bankrupt German yard’s building dock.

Unconfirmed reports from Genoa point to an imminent deal between Costa Crociere and the T. Mariotti yard for the completion work on the vessel.

“We are still in negotiations with Costa Crociere,” a Bremer Vulkan spokesman confirmed on Dec. 3. “The next deadline is the end of this month. It all depends on Costa. They not only have to buy the hull, but finish it, which will be expensive.” Thus, the Bremer Vulkan-Costa sale depends on the outcome of the T. Mariotti-Costa negotiations.

An executive at T. Mariotti was unable to provide additional information on the status of the negotiations at this time. “It’s too early,” he said, noting that word could come by the end of December.

Recent unconfirmed reports peg the price Costa is willing to pay Bremer Vulkan for the hull at approximately $38 million.
