Costa: Six Month Results

Costa Crociere has reported a net income of 34,875 billion Lira on revenues of 439,585 billion Lira for the first six months of its fiscal year 1999-2000, compared to net income of 34,640 billion Lira on net revenues of 455,656 billion Lira for the same period last year. Net income remained basically static despite 12 billion Lira in extra fuel expenses during this period, as well as a 3.5 percent decrease in revenues. According to Costa, the revenue drop arose from a 5.5 percent drop in cruise-ticket sales due to a temporary decrease in operating days. The Costa Marina, Costa Romantica, and Costa Victoria were drydocked during this period, and the Mermoz was sold. Costa expects that the current fiscal year will at least match the results of the previous fiscal year, when Costa saw a net profit of 170.2 billion Lira.
