NCL Hull to Europe

The partially completed hull of the first Project America ship has left Northrop Grumman Ship Systems’ (NGSS) Ingalls shipyard and is on its way to Europe where it will be built out into a new 2,000-passenger ship for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). While no final contract for the new ship’s construction has been announced, NCL confirmed that it is in “advanced discussions with Germany’s Lloyd Werft shipyard on an agreement to complete the vessel,” adding that “Lloyd Werft supervised the removal and towing of the hull materials on Nov. 5.” The yet-to-be-named ship is slated for delivery in spring 2004. According to NCL, “Once the completion of the first vessel is underway, NCL will explore the feasibility of completing the second based on the work in progress and materials that have been purchased as part of the agreement with NGSS.”
