Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Closes Strong Year of Milestones

The Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong, operated by Worldwide Cruise Terminals (WCT), closed out the 2015 season with a strong year of cruise traffic also winning the Best Port Management Award from the China Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, and being certified for ISO 9001 Quality Management.

The terminal ended the year with more cruise passengers (228,908) than all Hong Kong facilities combined for 2013. The biggest day was Dec. 21, with 11,099 passengers.

Approximately 80 percent of ship calls at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in 2015 were turnaround calls, and from July to October of 2015, the Voyager of the Seas was homeported in Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Hong Kong’s largest ever homeported ship, which sailed 22 cruises.

“The Best Port Management Award is an industry tribute, providing further motivation for our team to continue scaling new heights,” said Jeff Bent, managing director of WCT. “This award is a great achievement for the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and will help solidify the city’s status as a home port of choice for connecting to regional destinations such as Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and beyond.”

The terminal also passed the assessment for the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System in November 2015, and was awarded the certificate by the SGS Quality System Registrar Hong Kong on January 25th, 2016.

The ISO 9001:2008 standard certifies adherence to quality management principals, by which an organization demonstrates its ability to consistently provide products or services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. ISO certification also aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and regulatory requirements.

“ISO 9001 certification reflects our commitment to management excellence and also marks a major milestone in our journey towards continual improvement,” said Bent.
