San Francisco to Build New Terminal

The Port Of San Francisco is expecting to open its new terminal by 2013, in time for its 150th anniversary, with construction beginning in 2012, said Peter Dailey, deputy director maritime.

The plan is to convert Pier 27’s 120,000-square-foot shed into a cruise terminal and community facility.

It will also meet the evolved security and passenger handling demands of the cruise industry, be carbon neutral, have port and starboard power connections, and use the roof to maximize solar and wind energy.

The pier’s length will be 1,300 feet with a 35-foot water depth. The cost is estimated between $40 million and $60 million.
