Costa Cruises will celebrate its new flagship Costa Diadema, “Regina del Mediterraneo” (Queen of Mediterranean Sea) on November 7, 2014 during a special Christening event which will be held in Genoa.

This year, there will be a special angle: for the first time, after a worldwide selection, a travel agent will be chosen to be “La Madrina della Regina” (the Queen’s Godmother). From July 18th to September 15th, Costa will collect the submissions to elect her – together with her four bridesmaids – among its travel partners all over the world with a dedicated initiative.

All travel agents who are partners of Costa Cruises (owners, directors or sales staff  of a travel agency working with the Company) and want to submit their own candidature, can visit the dedicated website www.madrinadellaregina.it, insert the Costa agency code and follow the instructions to complete the application form – available in Italian, French, German, English and Spanish.

Candidates attending the selection will be requested to upload their pictures and to answer to three simple questions to know them better. The ideal Godmother and Bridesmaids are proud to be partners of Costa and to represent the Company and its values. They are passionate about their job, outgoing, spontaneous and capable of conveying a positive attitude.

Once the information and the pictures are gathered from the different travel agents, a special Costa Cruises Committee based in Genoa will choose – by October 15 – the travel agent who will become “La Madrina della Regina”, together with her four bridesmaids.   

For a night the travel agent selected will be an authentic “Star”, just like the celebrities who have christened Costa’s ships in the past, such as: Claudia Cardinale, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Marion Cotillard, Margareth Madè and others.

On the Christening night, she will be seated close to Costa Diadema’s Captain in the parterre of the elegant Emerald Theatre of the ship. During the most memorable, emotional and traditional moment of the ceremony, the Godmother will be on the stage to pronounce the ritual “I give you the name Costa Diadema”. The Captain will answer “In name of God, Godmother, cut!” and she will cut the ribbon and break a bottle of champagne on the bow of Costa Diadema.

After the Christening, the Godmother will be the protagonist at the elegant gala dinner onboard, sitting at the central table as guest of honor. Expectations are high and Genoa is ready to host the new Costa Diadema through a big event that will celebrate the city of Genoa and Costa Diadema’s guests as well as its exceptional Godmother.
