L-3 Marine Supplies NACOS Platinum Series for the Getaway

L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) announced today that it has supplied its NACOS Platinum series aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s new 324-meter, 145,500-gross ton cruise liner, Norwegian Getaway.

Norwegian Getaway is the sister vessel to Norwegian Breakaway, which was launched last year, and is equipped with the same L-3 SAM Electronics and L-3 Valmarine integrated NACOS Platinum systems.

“Following our successful system installations on Norwegian Breakaway, L-3 is extremely proud to complete this major undertaking for the second of the two largest liners built in Germany,” said Ulrich Weinreuter, president of L-3 Marine Systems International. “This latest deployment of our NACOS Platinum series once again underscores L-3’s continuing dedication to providing proven, state-of-the-art technology for the world’s leading cruise fleets.”

L-3 SAM Electronics’ NACOS Platinum navigation system comprises five X- and S-band radars serially linked to 11 main Multipilot multifunction workstations for combined displays of ARPA radar, ECDIS conning and dynamic positioning operations, in addition to those for automatic steering and voyage planning. The touch-screen units are in turn connected to secondary stations for selectable displays of data located at port and starboard wings as well as the captain’s cabin.

L-3 Valmarine’s VALMATIC Platinum Integrated Automation System (IAS) includes a Machinery System, Power Management and HVAC Systems, a Safety Management System (SMS) and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) System, as well as an Information Management System (IMS). Covering more than 50,000 I/O signals in total for both ships, these systems are fully integrated via a redundant system network. VALMATIC Platinum has a multifunctional and user-friendly operator interface where process-related information is instantly available.

The NACOS Platinum series is complemented by an advanced dynamic positioning system with three polar axis controllers and one CP1 DP controller, in addition to special cruise software developed by L-3 Dynamic Positioning & Control Systems. DP functionality is available at the main operator console and at both bridge wings.
