Port of LA Ready for Tall Ship Festival

The Port of Los Angeles has announced its Tall Ship Festival Aug. 20 to 24. More than a dozen international and domestic tall ships will sail into California waters from all over the Pacific Ocean.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow and visitors will have the opportunity to see the vessels, even step aboard and sail on some of them.

In addition, the historic Battleship Iowa and the Victory Ship SS Lane Victory will be open for tours.

The tall ships will include the official tall ships of Los Angeles, the Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson, twin brigantines.

A multi-day pass is $19 and provides five-day access to the festival grounds, onboard tours and other activities. Other ticket options from $85 to $150 feature sailings, and $7 for single day dockside viewing and access to workshops, entertainment and festival grounds.

Entertainment will also be packed into the port during the festival, including music – rock, jazz, sea shanty, latin, Mexican, Big Band, country and more.

Education and children’s activities will be a large part of the program – from knot tying to weapon demonstrations and sail training with real tall ship rigging.

Local food options will be on hand along with California wine tastings and the San Pedro Brewing Company providing a craft beer menu.
