Genting Breaks Ground on New Hotel and Cruise Ship Pier in Bahamas

Panoramic windows, wooden accents and contemporary furnishings will greet guests of a new 350 room hotel set to open at Resorts World Bimini, owned by Genting Group, in the Spring of 2014.

The Marina hotel, which is part of the 750-acre Resorts World Bimini property on North Bimini Island in The Bahamas, will comprise 325 standard rooms and 25 Garden Villa Suites, two restaurants, a rooftop bar and lounge and state of the art meeting space.

Each room will offer guests expansive views of Bimini Lagoon and direct access to the world-class Resorts World Bimini casino. The hotel is currently under construction and expected to deliver in mid-2014.

The hotel’s development is one of the largest construction projects in Bimini’s history.

All told, the property is expected to generate 450 new jobs, including 100 construction jobs and 350 permanent positions for Biminites and other Bahamians.

Resorts World Bimini already employs more than 450 associates.

Cruise Ship Pier

Plans for the hotel come as construction begins on a new government-approved cruise ship pier along North Bimini’s western coast, near the resort’s entrance.

The pier will accommodate the 32,000 ton Bimini SuperFast cruise ship, which accommodates up to 1,500 people and travels to the island from Miami daily.

Meanwhile, the South Bimini Airport is undergoing an expansion that will help meet growing visitor demand by lengthening the runway from 5,400 feet to 6,000 feet, in turn accommodating regional jets.

“Much more than a vacation destination, Resorts World Bimini is also an economic engine for The Bahamas and the islands of Bimini,” said Dana Leibovitz, President of Resorts World Bimini. “Our new hotel, paired with the construction of the cruise ship pier and airport expansion, will create hundreds of new jobs and enhance the island’s standing as a destination among visitors from South Florida and around the world.”
