HNA Cruises’ Henna has been released from its detainment on Jeju Island in South Korea after HNA and its parent company paid approximately $2.7 million.
The ship sailed from Jeju at 9:00pm local time, with a small number of passengers onboard that opted not to fly home on company-provided planes and stay on the 1986-built ship.
The arrest follows various legal dramas pitting the HNA Group, a major Chinese corporation that owns an airline, the Henna and various other companies, against Shagang Shipping.
Shagang claims HNA Group owes some $58 million on a bulk carrier charter agreement dating back to 2008.
