According to reports from India, the Gujurat government is close to announcing a new cruise line to boost tourism between Gujarant, a state in Northwest India, and Porbander, a coastal destination in Gujarat.

The government is planning to introduce one ship, operated privately, and offer a three-day package.

Quoted in Indian media, Gujarat Principal Secretary of Tourism and Civil Aviation Vipul Mittra told reporters: “We are hopeful that by this winter it will start. Gujarat has the longest coastline of 1,600 km. We have identified 17 beaches along the coastline and our focus is to develop coastal tourism in these places and make Gujarat a coastal tourism destination.”

In addition, reports said that cruise ships will get berthing priority at ports and no port fees will be charged.

Cruise Industry News reported a rumor regarding this potential start-up in March.
