Pullmantur Flying Passengers Home After Zenith Fire

Pullmantur’s Zenith has been towed into Venice after an night-time engine room fire left the ship partially disabled, according to reports.

The ship was on a Mediterranean cruise, sailing from Ravenna to Venice, when the incident occurred.

The 1992-built ship’s fire was extinguished almost immediately without injury but did enough damage that Pullmantur is flying passengers home on the company’s airplanes.

Passengers will receive a full refund and transportation costs as the Madrid-based company hopes to repair the ship while dockside in Venice.

The Zenith is scheduled to be transferred to the CDF brand in 2014 and was originally built for Celebrity Cruises.
