Carnival: Technology Initiatives

Carnival Corporation is moving forward installing scrubbers - starting wtih ships that may be in the ECA's the most. (photo: Sergio Ferreira)Carnival Corporation revealed a number of technology initiatives on today’s Q2 earnings call that it has kept under wraps.

Scrubbers will be installed on two more ships before year’s end and will be rolled out fleetwide next year at an estimated cost from $1 million to $1.5 million per engine.

In addition, Carnival said it will launch a pilot test on air-bubble technology later this year, as well as an LNG pilot test.

In related developments, a new global training center is being completed in the Netherlands (for Carnival) with multiple bridge and engine room simulators.
