MSC Cruises has released the following statement regarding a crew member being diagnosed with bacterial meningitis on the MSC Orchestra:
On Sunday October 7 2012, an MSC Orchestra crew member was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and was disembarked immediately in Livorno, Italy, in order to receive appropriate medical treatment in hospital.
Three other crew members presenting with similar symptoms were also disembarked and sent to hospital for a full examination. In agreement with maritime health authorities, all passengers onboard will receive an antibiotic treatment as a precautionary measure.
MSC Orchestra left Livorno, Italy, at 22.30, and is now continuing her regular cruise itinerary with scheduled calls at Villefranche sur Mer, France, Valencia and Ibiza, Spain, Tunis, Tunisia, Catania and Naples, Italy.
