Energy-Efficient KONE Solutions for TUI Cruises Ship

KONE has been selected to people flow solutions onboard the TUI Cruises’ new vessel built by STX Finland in Turku.  According to a statement from KONE, its elevators and escalators will help ensure the smooth movement of 1,000 crew members operating the vessel as well the 2,500 passengers on vacation.

KONE will provide a total of 21 units, consisting of 10 elevators for passengers and 8 elevators for service, two escalators and one platform for people with impaired mobility. All of the elevators are equipped with the KONE EcoDisc hoisting machine, which is 50–70% more energy efficient than conventional elevator motors.

“Given the special focus paid to energy efficiency by the vessel owners, it is only natural that the elevator and escalator solutions chosen offer the latest innovations in the field,” said John Hemgård, head of Marine Business at KONE.

The 97,000-ton ship is slated for delivery in 2014.
