Discovery World Cruises becomes Voyages of Discovery

Discovery World Cruises, operator of soft-adventure and destination-intensive cruise programs, will change its name to Voyages of Discovery.

Discovery World Cruises, based in Fort Lauderdale, markets the 650-passenger mv Discovery to customers in the United States and Canada.  It is a division of UK-based All Leisure Group, which markets the ship under the Voyages of Discovery brand in the United Kingdom, Australasia and South Africa.

“This is a long-planned step following our acquisition in 2005 by All Leisure Group,” said Mark Flager, vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services.  “We’ll now be recognized as one brand worldwide.”

The name change will be immediately reflected in the line’s Summer 2008 catalog, said Flager, with online changes to follow shortly.

The line recently announced the addition of a second ship to its fleet. The 394-passenger Explorer II will join the fleet in 2008 after a soft refurbishment.  Launched in 1996 as the Minerva for Swan Hellenic, the vessel will operate itineraries in the Baltic, Scandinavia and Mediterranean beginning in May 2008.

The mv Discovery operates cruisetour programs to Antarctica, the Galapagos, Amazon and Greenland, as well as Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa and Black Sea.

In 2006, Discovery World Cruises was awarded “Best Value” in the Specialty Cruises category from the World Ocean & Cruise Liner Society.
