Airlines Recommit to RFID

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports mishandled airline baggage is up 32.3 percent during the first three months of this year. And, at the recent International Air Transport Association (IATA) meeting the industry agency renewed a commitment that “RFID will be part of a new approach to baggage handling.”

RFID, LTD. has their soon to be released BagChip strategically positioned when the airline industry moves to correct the problem. The BagChip could find lost luggage while travelers are still waiting at the carousel saving much of the $100 million a year it costs to deliver baggage later to the owner’s home.

“The airlines are mishandling eight bags out of every 1,000 they touch; more than the 18.4 percent rise last year this time. This means that that one piece of luggage is missing for every 125 travelers; totally inappropriate for a $5 billion a year industry that has had so many opportunities to resolve the problem. Our RFID-enabled BagChip is the obvious answer. Airlines need to take a serious look at this simple device. When luggage affixed with a BagChip at the airport check-in is misplaced then baggage handlers driving airport Tug Carts could quickly find the piece by scanning baggage inventory from 50 yards away using hand held range readers,” notes RFID, LTD., president Nicholas Chavez

Airlines can test the BagChip solution by RFID, LTD. at select airports.
