Shorepower in the Port of Oslo for Color Line

Color Line - plugging in in OsloAs of October 10, the Color Magic ferry is plugging into shorepower in the Port of Oslo.

According to data from the port, shorepower, over the course of a year, for the ferry, is equivalent to taking some 1,700 cars off the road and removing 3,000 tons of CO2 and 50 tons of NOx from the air.

The Port of Oslo invested an estimated $350,000 in the project, while Color Line has committed some $2.7 million to convert the Color Magic and the Color Fantasy in 2012.

Additional supporters include Transnova and Enova.

Port of Oslo officials told Cruise Industry News that they hope to offer shorepower to cruise ships in the future, and pointed out that shorepower in Norway is clean and green – coming from hydroelectric powerplants.
