Tampa Port Authority Security Professional Honored with Award

The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that a member of its security force has won a 2011 Bern Laxer Award, given by Tampa Bay & Company, in honor of consistent excellence in customer service within the hospitality industry. The award was presented to Sgt. Ken Tran, an eight-year port authority employee, at an annual luncheon today, in conjunction with National Tourism Week, at the Tampa Convention Center.

One of 14 winners of the hospitality award, Sgt. Tran is responsible for terminal security at the port’s cruise facilities, and in his highly-visible role also serves well as an ambassador for the Port of Tampa. Additionally, it is notable that he consistently projects an image of professionalism, flexibility and understanding of diversity in facing the needs and dynamics of literally thousands of people moving through Tampa’s cruise terminals.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Sergeant Ken Tran on our front lines,” Richard Wainio, Tampa’s port director and chief executive, said. “Sergeant Tran represents the best type of employee and citizen, one who is quick to act in responsible ways and cares enough about people, safety and order to go the extra mile on a daily basis. He is very deserving of this award,” he said.
