The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce yet another design award for the authority’s much-lauded 700+ space, multi-level parking garage.  The garage has been recognized with an Eagle Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), celebrating excellence in construction.  Past awards have recognized the garage for its architectural design, aesthetics and for its innovative parking design system.  The garage is located in the Channelside area of downtown.

This most recent award follows on the heels of receiving other awards including the Florida Parking Association’s Award of Excellence in February, and two merit awards in 2010 by the Tampa Bay and Orlando chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

The garage project was designed by the Tampa firm HKS Architects, Inc., and construction was completed by Kraft Construction.  The completed garage was open with due fanfare in summer 2010.

“Our garage has been very well recognized, and we are pleased to see so much attention given to a project that has exceeded all expectations,” Richard Wainio, Tampa’s port director and CEO, said.  “This well-designed garage fits several key needs in the Channelside area.  We again thank the City of Tampa, the architects and construction team for their contributions to the success of this fantastic garage,” he said.

The garage expansion project addressed the critical need for more parking during special events and other peak usage times in the Channelside area of downtown.  Additionally, its purposeful design facilitates improved provisioning of cruise ships at nearby cruise terminals.  In addition to its vitality as an efficient parking hub, the garage is aesthetically unique, conveying artistry and a sense of excitement that blends well with area attractions.
