Carnival Splendor Under Tow to Ensenada

Carnival Splendor, which suffered an engine room fire yesterday, is under tow to Ensenada, Mexico to disembark 3,299 passengers as the voyage as been cancelled.

The fire broke out on the first day of the cruise at 6 am, according to reports. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, although it did re-ignite. Passengers were moved to the top decks during the engine room blaze with no injuries being reported.

Reports from the cruise line said that the ship was operating on emergency power and that passengers spent a large portion of yesterday without flushing toilets, although the line had restored cabin toilet systems by the morning.

Carnival is offering full refunds to those onboard, as well as a future cruise voucher.
