Silversea Takes Delivery of the Silver Spirit

The Silver Spirit was delivered to Silversea Cruises in a ceremony at the Ancona shipyard on Saturday, Dec. 12. Present were the Chairman of Silversea Cruises Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, while Fincantieri was represented by the Chairman, Corrado Antonini, and the Chief Executive Officer Giuseppe Bono.

At 36,000 tons and 195 meters long, the Silver Spirit is the largest vessel in the Silversea fleet. There are eight decks, and the ship has a cruising speed of 20.3 knots. Five hundred and forty passengers can be accommodated in 270 suites, 95 percent of which have ocean views. The crew count is 378.

Italian architect Giacomo Mortola is responsible for the interior design, and has, according to Silversea, found the perfect balance between modern functional requirements and Art Decò.

In a prepared statement, Silversea said that passengers on the Silver Spirit will find the same standards of luxury as the other ships in the fleet, an intimate atmosphere, sophisticated elegance and top five star service.

Guests may choose from six restaurants, one of which specialising in Eastern food, the Seishin, which means “spirit” in Japanese.

There is also the Stars Supper Club inspired by Art Decò where the exclusive, sophisticated atmosphere of British clubs of the 1930s has been re-created.

The Silver Spirit sails her inaugural cruise from Barcelona to Lisbon on Dec. 23 and will be christened in Ft. Lauderdale on Jan. 21 after which she sails her inaugural Grand Voyage, 91 days to South America, calling in Rio de Janeiro during Carnival, go round Cape Horn, explore the Mexican Riviera and sail up to the Panama Canal calling at 45 ports in over 20 nations including Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
