At a show-stopping, imaginative press event in NYC Thursday afternoon, Disney Cruise Line rolled out some more news about its new ship, Disney Dream.

Disney President Karl Holz told Cruise Industry News: “we are in relentless pursuit of quality. The Dream will be a magical ship designed specially for families. We will deliver the WOW experience with a special human touch and new Disney technical innovations. Disney is known for its unique entertainment.”

New to the Dream will be the world’s first shipboard water coaster ride – the Aquaduck; Enchanted Artwork – art that magically comes alive; inside staterooms will have a Virtual Porthole with real-time ocean views and scenery at port aided by high-definition cameras placed on the exterior of the ship to feed live video. In Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Lab youth areas Disney characters come to life and interact with children on a 103-inch plasma screen. Crush, the sea turtle from the film “Finding Nemo” or “Stitch” make appearances on screen to chat, play and joke with kids in un-rehearsed conversation.

The Disney Dream will introduce more exclusive adult only areas to escape. The District, as one example, is an adult-exclusive nighttime entertainment area. It features bars, lounges, and an area of escape for adults.

Holz added: “Disney is committed to growth in the international market. The guests tell us where they want to go and we listen.”

The ship will be christened in early 2011.
