Seamobile Names Jonathan Weintraub CEO

SeaMobile, Inc., the leading provider of satellite communications services to the maritime industry and remote locations throughout the world, has named Jonathan Weintraub as chief executive officer.

Previous to his appointment as CEO, Weintraub has served as the company’s chief financial officer and acting chief executive. SeaMobile has become an industry leader in mobile satellite services offered through its MTN Satellite Services subsidiary. The company is privately held and is backed by a number of highly regarded investors including Ignition Partners, Chart Capital Partners and Steelpoint Capital Partners.

“We are excited to have Jonathan continue leading SeaMobile. The company has a strong history and a great future.” said John Zagula, partner at Ignition Partners and SeaMobile board member. “We believe Jonathan’s business and financial experiences will help increase the company’s impressive performance and operational excellence in these challenging times.”

Before joining SeaMobile, Weintraub, 46, was a partner in Lake Washington Capital in Seattle, where he advised and invested in technology, telecommunications and consumer companies. Previously, he was a Managing Director in the Consumer Products and Retail Group of UBS Investment Bank in New York. Weintraub joined UBS predecessor Dillon, Read & Co. Inc. in 1985. From 1991 to 1995 he was divisional head and Vice President of Harmon Publishing Company, then the nation’s largest publisher of real estate photo classified magazines. He returned to Dillon Read after the sale of Harmon to United News & Media plc.

“This is a terrific company. I am honored and excited to take on new responsibilities at SeaMobile and look forward to working with our customers and our team to continue providing high-quality services,” said Weintraub. “We have built a world-class business through our global network and well-known MTN service. We are inspired by delivering on our vision of using the best technology and services to allow people to be ’In the middle of nowhere and in the center of everything.’”

Weintraub graduated from Harvard College and from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. He is currently a Trustee of The Bush School in Seattle and of The Harvard Crimson. He previously served as a Trustee and Treasurer of The Dalton School and the Citizens Budget Commission in New York City, and as Chairman of the Board and Treasurer of The Harvard Crimson.
