Spin-A-Thon Benefiting Kids In Distress

The marine industry rides for kids in support of National Child Abuse Awareness Month. On April 17th at the Zoo Health Club and April 18th at Just Fit Gym, the first ever Spin-A-Thon weekend will be held to raise awareness and funding for Kids In Distress. The events will take place from Noon- 6 p.m. The Friday event will kickoff the Spin-A-Thon weekend with a networking cocktail party at the Zoo Health Club. The event organizers will be providing ‘Hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. On Saturday the post race party will commence and the race results will be announced. Each participating marine company is assembling a team of enthusiastic cyclists. The teams are providing an entrance fee to be directly donated to Kids In Distress. The individual team members are tasked with raising the support and donation of their friends, family members and business associates. The event is being organized by The Triton newspaper, MHG Marine Benefits, International Maritime Associates and Quantum Marine.

The final goal – raise $20,000 for Kids In Distress.

“To celebrate our fifth anniversary this month, we wanted to give back to the Fort Lauderdale community that has made our business possible, and what better way to do that than through our city’s largest industry — the marine industry,” said David Reed, publisher of the monthly yachting newspaper The Triton. “After all, April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month.”

Kids In Distress, founded in 1979, is a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, preservation of the family and the care and treatment of abused and neglected children. For 30 years KID has provided a safe and often permanent place for children in the community when they have had nowhere to turn. They are providing a better future for children who need hope restored in their lives. KID’s efforts over the years have truly impacted many of South Florida’s children and families and the marine industry is proud to raise awareness and support for such a commendable charity.

We are excited that our friends in the marine industry have created such a unique and wonderful idea to support KID, we truly appreciate their care and concern for helping children when they need it most, Lea Kuhry, Special Events Manager, Kids In Distress.

It is the support of each individual that can truly impact these children’s future. Come watch the riders on their journey and find out which team received the highest contribution. Spin-A-Thon attendees will pay a $20 entrance fee to the event, which will be donated to Kids In Distress. There will be a series of events prior to the Spin-A-Thon weekend to gain community support. Please come cheer on the teams and help make a difference in a child’s life. To find out how you can change a child’s future contact Susan Hult at
