Seward, Alaska to Get $380,000 for Cruise Dock Security

The city of Seward plans to use its $383,652 portion of Alaska’s Commercial Passenger Vessel tax to upgrade safety and security systems at the cruise pier, according to Alaska’s Morris News Service.

The city of Seward plans to build a security area near the cruise ship wharf where vessels for various law enforcement and fire fighting agencies would dock, the news service reported. Total cost for the project was estimated at $6.5 million.

The Commercial Passenger Vessel excise tax was enacted by voter referendum in 2006. The more than $383,000 is Seward’s share of the 2007 collections.
