First Cruise Ship of the Season Arrives in St. Croix

St. Croix will welcome its first cruise ship arrival of the season when Oceania Regatta docks at the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility in Frederiksted on Nov. 28. This marks the return of regularly scheduled cruise calls to St. Croix after a long hiatus. In fact, based on the 2009 berthing requests, next year’s arrivals will represent a total of 121,768 passengers to the island of St. Croix with 43,986 crew members scheduled to support the 48 port of calls. The next scheduled cruise call is on January 5, 2009. More than 60 calls are scheduled for St. Croix in 2009.

As the 684 cruise passengers disembark in St. Croix this Friday, they will be greeted by mocko jumbies dancing to the sounds of steel pan music as well as greeters from the Department of Tourism offering recommendations on the day’s activities, souvenirs and Cruzan rum samples. Welcome festivities will include performances by the Rising Stars Steel Pan Orchestra, The Guardians of Culture, the St. Croix Educational Complex Quelbe Band and the St. Croix Heritage Dancers.
