Grand Turk Cruises To Resume In October

Carnival Corporation plans to re-open the Grand Turk Cruise Center on Oct. 8 after an engineering survey found there was no damage to the cruise pier, Carnival announced.

Hurricane Ike caused damage to the facility’s retail and restaurant complex, Carnival said. Other reports noted damage to surrounding landscaping as well.

“We believe we can complete repairs to the cruise center within a 30-day period and bring cruise ships back to Grand Turk,” said Giora Israel, Carnival’s vice president of strategic planning and port development.

The Carnival Destiny is scheduled to call at Grand Turk on Oct. 8. Carnival Cruise Lines is the largest cruise-line user of the Grand Turk facility, however several other cruise lines, both from Carnival Corporation’s brands and from other cruise operators, also regularly call at Grand Turk.
