SS Monterey Sails Maiden Voyage

Aloha Pacific Cruises has announced the maiden voyage of the Monterey beginning July 10 in Copenhagen and ending August 25 in San Francisco. Ports of call underway include Oslo, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Southamption, Cork, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Annapolis, Norfolk, Savannah, Port Canaveral, Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Cozumel, Panama Canal, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

In addition to the complete 47-day sailing, segments of 19 and 30 days are also available.

Per person fares range from $13,995 to $21,995 for the 47-day cruise; $8,995 to $13,995 for 30 days; and $5,495 to $8,995 for 19 days. Included are: air transportation; complimentary wine, spirits and beverages while on board; complimentary shore excursions and port taxes; and a reception party and captain’s dinner. To add to the nostalgia, former staff and officers of the original Monterey have been asked to serve as special hosts and hostesses during the voyage.

As special events will be arranged with dignitaries, press and agents in each port of call, the ship will only carry 300 passengers, and already has more than 100 booked, according to a spokesperson for the line.

Golden Bear Travel of San Francisco has been appointed exclusive sales agent for this cruise and is distributing a brochure to the Mariners Club, consisting of passengers who have previously sailed on the Monterey.

On to Hawaii

A “Grand Homecoming Cruise” will be offered August 26 from San Francisco, calling at Monterey, Honolulu for special celebrations, on to Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island of Hawaii, before returning to Honolulu, September 10. Several inaugural cruises featuring the same itinerary will follow. Per person fares range from $3,995 to $6,995. Fares for the inaugural cruises and the 1988 cruise season range from $1,195 to $2,295.
