Royal Viking Line has announced plans to to transfer the Royal Viking Star to Norwegian Caribbean Lines in November, 1988. The transfer will coincide with the December 1988 arrival of RVL’s new 36,000-ton, 740-passenger ship under construction in Finland.

According to RVL, the Royal Viking Star will undergo extensive modification, including the addition of passenger cabins and the redesign of public rooms. The ship will also be renamed.

The Royal Viking Star was the first RVL ship to enter service in July of 1972. The 22,000-ton, 500-passenger ship was later expanded to 29,000 tons and 710 passengers in 1981.

In a press statement, Joseph Watters, President of RVL, said that she was an excellent ship which served the line magnificently. “We will miss her,” he added, “but she will be followed by a new generation of vessels which is designed to even higher standards.
