Star Cruises Capacity Drop

Asia/Pacific market leader Star Cruises will again be sailing with four ships this winter – but only one will sail for the first two months of the season. The line will be losing the Superstar Gemini in December, prompting a drop in Star’s capacity over last winter. The Gemini was purchased by the Danish Clipper Group and will be chartered to Spanish Vision Cruises in March 2009. She will be renamed Vision Star.

The Superstar Aquarius, Gemini, Libra and Virgo will all be sailing for Star in 2008-2009, for a total of 143,460 passengers. However, the Libra, which is currently operating a series of two- and three-night short cruises from Keelung, Taiwan, will be redeployed this winter. Between November 2008 and March 2009, the ship will operate a series of alternating three-, four- and seven-night itineraries from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Phuket.

A full report of the Asia/Pacific 2008-2009 season will be in the next issue of the Cruise Industry News Newsletter.
