The Superstar Gemini will be chartered to Spanish Vision Cruises in March 2009 on a long-term, deck and engine time charter, Niels G. Jensen, director of the Clipper Group, told Cruise Industry News.

The 1992-built, 800-passenger Gemini, which will be renamed Clipper Jewel, was sold by Star Cruises to the Clipper Group, an international shipping consortium, in September 2007, for an undisclosed amount, and is currently being chartered back by Star until December.

Jensen said the ship will be “upgraded a bit,” which will include “new carpets and interiors, and will sail in the Caribbean for Vision. Miami-based International Shipping Partners will be doing the ship’s technical management.

The Clipper Group, based in Denmark, owns 14 vessels in the cruise segment – ranging from river cruise vessels, expedition vessels, as well as premium and luxury cruise vessels. It also operates more than 200 vessels within the bulk and tanker sectors, and has more than 100 newbuildings on order.
