Majesty Cruise Line to Start Service

Dolphin Cruise Line has reached an agreement with Masa Yards to acquire a newbuilding that previously was started for Birka Line. In the process, Dolphin is also forming a new subsidiary, Majesty Cruise Line, which will be operating the new 32,000-ton, 1,100 passenger vessel in the upscale market. Delivery of the $200 million vessel is scheduled for late summer 1992.

According to Ed Mass, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Dolphin, only the hull and the lower deck have been completed, allowing Dolphin to design the new ship to its specifications.

Mass said that while the ship would have inside and outside staterooms, the design was still in the drawing stages, and that Greek interior designer Michael Katzourakis has been hired.

Mass noted that a homeport had not yet been decided upon and that subsequently itineraries were also undetermined. While Dolphin operates from Miami, Mass hinted that the company was also considering other homeports.

Long term, Mass said, there should be four to five ships in the company’s fleets.

At present Dolphin operates the 586-passenger Dolphin IV on three- and four-day cruises from Miami, and the 840-passenger Seabreeze on seven-day cruises also from Miami. Both ships recently underwent thorough refurbishment and upgrading.
