Two New AIDA Ships Ordered

Carnival Corporation has ordered two new 68,500-ton, 2,030-passenger ships for its Aida Cruises brand to be built by Meyer Werft at a cost of approximately 315 million euros ($403 million) each, for deliveries in April 2007 and April 2009.

Carnival said that the per berth cost of approximately 155,000 euros ($198,500) “falls at the low end of what Carnival has historically paid for euro priced newbuilds.”

The company also said its capacity growth will be 6.9 percent in 2007, 5.5 percent in 2008 and 2.1 percent in 2009.

Carnival’s newbuilding program includes 14 ships for deliveries between November 2004 and April 2009 at an estimated cost of $7 billion.
