Greece: Kavala: Upward Trend and Bigger Piers

Kavala is among a few Greek ports getting much-needed infrastructure updates.

Kavala, located in northern Greece, is the capital of the Kavala province and has played a historically vital role as a fishing and trade center throughout history.

“In 2014 we had nearly 20,000 passengers in our city and we strongly believe we will have about the same or even more this year, since many cruise ships are expected to visit our port for the first time in 2015,” said Hristos Iliadis, CEO of shipping and marina operations.

“We see an upward trend for cruise calls in the next few years.”

The port is upgrading its piers to accept bigger ships in time for the 2016 season, said Iliadis.
