Joni L. Rein has been appointed vice president of field sales for Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise operator, and will assume her position on June 16, 2008.
In this new role, Rein will oversee Carnival’s field sales efforts, particularly as they relate to its travel agent partners, who are responsible for the majority of the line’s bookings. Rein will lead a talented team of business development managers, who work with more than 30,000 travel agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada in developing new business opportunities.
In addition to field sales, she will also oversee Carnival’s corporate and incentive sales efforts, as well as the line’s business development services department which assists travel agents with their day-to-day business needs. Rein will report to Lynn C. Torrent, Carnival’s senior vice president of sales and guest services.
Rein has more than 20 years of sales experience, most recently serving as vice president of sales development for a Carnival sister company, Costa Cruises, at the company’s North American headquarters in Hollywood, Fla.
She began her career as director of marketing administration at Certified Vacations, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based tour operator, then served as director of systems planning and implementation for Kids in Distress, a non-profit agency that assists abused and neglected children in Broward County, Fla. Rein also held the position of senior director of sales operations for Renaissance Cruises and helped launch an online travel services company, Online Vacation Center.
“Joni is the ideal candidate for this position, possessing a diverse, well-rounded sales background with experience in a variety of areas of the travel industry. She will be a tremendous asset to our sales organization,” said Torrent.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the largest sales force in the industry, especially at a time of such incredible growth,” Rein said. “While I’m sad to leave the exceptional group of people I’ve worked with at Costa, I’m tremendously excited to join our sister company in this new role,” she added.
