Warnemunde a Popular Cruise Port

The Port of Rostock Warnemunde has announced that it is expecting approximately 181 cruise by 39 ships this coming season.

The 2015 season begins on May 5 with a double port call by the Celebrity Silhouette and the Regal Princess. Both vessels are deployed in the Baltic for the first time.

“In the course of the season we also look forward to first-time port calls by the Birka Stockholm, Costa Favolosa and Luminosa, Horizon, Louis Aura, Magellan, Sinfonia, Ocean Dream, Serenade of the Seas and Viking Star,“ said Jens A. Scharner, the new commercial manager for the port, having assumed his position Jan. 1, 2015.

The Rostock-based AIDA Cruises will again operate two of its vessels from its Baltic home port: the AIDAdiva and AIDAmar, on 38 turnarounds. The AIDAmar will conclude the 2015 cruise season on Oct. 17.

Costa, MSC, Princess and other cruise operators plan to embark and disembark some of their passengers from the German market in Rostock.

The traffic is concentrated on nine days during the summer when 12 cruise ships will be calling. This year’s cruise calendar includes three days with five ships in port on July 5 and 17, and Aug. 2; one day with four ships in on Aug. 30; and 12 days with tree ships at the same time.

More than 100 of the calls will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In total, 111 days this year will see cruise ships calling at the port on river Warnow.

More than half a million cruise travellers are expected, similar passenger numbers as last year. Among the most frequented cruise ports in the Balti, Rostock Warnemünde ranks sixth after Copenhagen, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Stockholm and Helsinki.
