Shore Ex: New Beer Tour in Fairbanks

A new tour option will be available for travelers who make it as far north as Fairbanks in 2015: visits to two of northernmost breweries in the U.S. offered by the 1st Alaska Outdoor School and One Day Adventures.

The tour departs from downtown Fairbanks and will pick up visitors (and locals, the organizers insist) at several different hotel locations (as well as nearby homes).

The first stop on the tour is at HooDoo Brewing Co., located next to the Alaska Railroad depot. Here visitors will taste a six-beer sampling of handcrafted brews in a custom-built taproom. Visitors and locals will learn from their guide how HooDoo Brewery came to be and what makes them a unique brewery in the Interior.

The tour continues, stopping at the trans-Alaska pipeline system (optional) for an up close picture opportunity as well as a 10-minute historical presentation.

Next is the Silver Gulch Brewing & Bottling Co. At this final stop, guests will take a tour of the brewery, taste several more beers, as well as an entrée and dessert item from its restaurant menu.

The four-hour tour launches May 15. A four-person minimum is required and guests must be 21 years and older. Tours will run Tuesday through Saturday and tickets are $125 per person.
