More Public Affairs Staff for CLIA

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced today that Elinore Boeke has joined the association as Director of Public Affairs, and Amanda Deatherage has joined as Manager of Public Affairs.

Mike McGarry, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, said, “We are excited to have Elinore and Amanda as members of CLIA’s public affairs team. Their depth of experience and successful records in public affairs will further advance CLIA’s mission on behalf of our members.”

Boeke brings to CLIA more than 15 years of experience in public affairs communications and advocacy, including knowledge of Capitol Hill, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other regulatory agencies gained through years of Congressional and agency outreach.

During her career, Boeke has supported the government relations and media relations goals of several associations, including the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the Personal Watercraft Industry Association. Prior to CLIA, she was Senior Manager of Public Policy Communications for HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), where she managed communications and outreach programs for the government relations team of the largest association focused on health information technology.

Deatherage also has an extensive background in advocacy and public policy, including such positions as the Director of Strategic Alliances at DCI Group where she created, maintained and cultivated relationships with third party groups and stakeholders on a wide range of policy issues on behalf of major Fortune 500 clients. Prior to DCI Group, she was the Director for International Advisory Services Group. In that capacity she lobbied to increase grassroots, business and government awareness of the inadequacies of the current tax system on international competitiveness. In 2006, Deatherage served as a trade law and lobbying expert for a USAID trade capacity building mission in Jakarta, Indonesia. She developed and executed eight seminars on WTO trade law and lobbying. Deatherage most recently worked with Sherman Worldwide as a public affairs consultant.

Boeke, a graduate of Wellesley College with a B.A. in Political Science, has enjoyed several cruise vacations with her family. Deatherage received her JD from South Texas College of Law and her BA in International Relations from Lynchburg College.
