The restrictions on large cruise ships going into Venice have been suspended until a June 12 hearing, according to the Gazzetta del Sud online.

The Venezia Terminal Passeggeri (VTP) had appealed the ruling to an administrative court.

The ruling was passed last November calling for reduction of calls by passenger ships over 40,000 tons, starting this year, and a ban on passenger ships over 96,000 tons, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

The VTP told Cruise Industry News previously that they hoped for an extension until an alternative channel to the port has been completed.
