Costa Diadema Inaugural Cruise Announced

Costa Cruises has announced the new inaugural cruises of Costa Diadema, the future flagship of the company which will be delivered by Fincantieri on October 30, 2014.

The first cruise will be the “vernissage cruise”, with three new ports included in the itinerary: Trieste, Dubrovnik and Genoa, wonderful cities, rich in culture and beautiful architecture.
Trieste is the new port of departure, with a one and a half day stopover, while the final port of destination is Genoa, the city where Costa Cruises has its headquarters.

The itinerary will start on November 1 from Trieste, where the ship will stay until 1 pm the following day; then the ship will call on at Dubrovnik; at Corfù; at Malta and Naples before ending in Genoa on Nov. 7.

After the vernissage, from November 8, Costa Diadema will depart for three seven-day inaugural cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea, with longer stopovers at Marseille, Barcelona and Savona.

They will offer the chance of visiting in a single cruise Florence  and Naples, two of the most popular Italian cities. The itinerary include calls at Genoa (only for the first cruise), Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples, La Spezia and Savona.

During these first weeks into service Costa Diadema, a ship built in Italy and an ambassador for the “Made in Italy”,  will visit five Italian ports: Trieste, Naples, Genoa, La Spezia and Savona.

From November 29 and for the rest of the 2014/15 Winter season, the new flagship will leave from Savona on seven-day cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea, calling every week at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia.

Costa Cruises has invested a total of around 550 million euro in the construction of the Costa Diadema at Finantieri shipyards in Marghera.  The project is employing a total of approximately 1000 shipyard workers plus another 2500 employees of allied industries.  The benefits in terms of employment extend beyond the yard, especially regarding the fitting-out of the interiors of the cruise ship, with the involvement of about 400 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms.
