Norway Reports Record 2013, Projects Slight Reduction for 2014

Cruise Norway has reported 2,187 cruise ship calls to 41 ports in 2013, bringing a total of nearly 3 million passengers. While ship calls are up 6 percent, the passenger traffic is up 18 percent year-over-year.

Cruise calls are also on their way to become a year-round phenomenon in Norway. From 14 winter calls in 2010, Norway will have 58 in 2013 and expects 86 in 2014.

The biggest increases are coming in the months of March and November, while January remains the lightest month with only one call this year and none next year.

Despite having been a growth trajectory, confirmed 2014 calls will be 4 percent down from this year, with 2,098 calls, and the projected passenger traffic will be down 8 percent at approximately 2.7 million.

The ports are basing their projections on 85 percent load factors, according to Cruise Norway.

In terms of passenger traffic, Bergen ranks as the busiest port in 2013, followed by Stavanger, Geiranger, Oslo, Flam, Alesund, Molde and Andalsnes, Olden and Nordkap, among top 10 ports.
