API spa: A Company with 50 Years of Experience in Deck Coating
A company with 50 years of experience in deck coating.API was established in 1958 and from the outset it has represented a benchmark in the design and production of advanced technology resins for use as protective coatings and sealants.

The history of API is closely linked to the world of shipbuilding, and it is in this sector that API has built and strengthened its credibility and reputation for reliability over the years, consolidating market leadership and paving the way to expand into foreign markets, creating where necessary operating facilities to seize opportunities as effectively as possible.

In addition, by operating in the framework of a quality system certified in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001, API has ensured that the company has grown economically in step with the introduction of organisation, production and management process improvements.

The Italian Navy has always been part of the history of API, in an ongoing commitment to developing innovative products for certification in compliance with the stringent parameters required by military constructions.

By definition a promoter of innovative technology, the Italian Navy has found API to be an ideal partner in the quest for innovative solutions.

For the Italian Navy API has developed entire product lines, sealants, tank coating, coatings for indoor, outdoor and flight decks, anti-fouling and anti-corrosion treatment cycles for hulls, and so on.

API continues to produce and market all these products which, in part through feedback from the Italian Navy, are now used widely in other sectors and by other customers.

Historically, the partnership between API and shipyards revolves around two classes of product: the FLEXIGEL and FLEXISECURIT flooring and sub-floor ranges, and the PLASTIGEL range of tank sealants and coatings.

Over more than thirty years, these products have consolidated significant market share as a result of their universally recognised quality.

API can offer a huge variety of flooring solutions, for both technical and services areas that require excellent mechanical strength and resistance to wear, and for more decorative applications in indoor and outdoor public areas.

Thanks to this know-how and to the enormous range of colours available, combine with myriad decorative solutions possible, API allows deck coating to be tailor-made to satisfy the increased demand in the cruise industry. FLEXIGEL DECORO soft or hard type is  now commonly used term in shipyards representing a reference for both Owners and Architects.

Characteristics not to forget: low weight,  seamless, waterproof with no expansion joints or other water seepage points.

The innovative system FLEXIGEL DECORO - SYNTHETEAK wants to recreate the beauty and the comfort of a teak deck, this kind of floor has been extensively applied on board cruise liners.

The possibility offered by our floors to combine decorative appearance and easy maintenance has allowed us to expand our activity in the super yacht industry matching the different wishes of Designer, Owners and Shipyard.

For certain applications and specific fields of use, the solutions needed are diametrically opposed to the decorative cycles used in the cruise and pleasure craft sector. API has therefore developed products that combine long life with easy maintenance.

These needs are particularly pressing for installations on large-scale structures, such as off-shore platforms and working vessels, which are often exposed to continuous activity and therefore need easy to apply and maintain coatings, featuring mechanical strength, flame resistance, reduced slipperiness, etc.

Over the years API has also perfected its capabilities in the so-called "technical vessel" segment, in part by exploiting know-how and information acquired in other fields and by developing specific product types, which continue to be used today in this and other sectors.

Our goal is to continue many years of work with shipyards, designers and application specialists to innovate our products reliably and continuously, backed by a commitment to promoting research into high performance technical and aesthetic solutions.
